Remember to art today.

Temptation of a would-be protester

Oh Danny’s Warehouse! Why doth thou tease me thus?! With perky pictures of dainty little Lycra-filled outfits and ensembles, your accursed emailer fills my heart with desire for new dance clothes. Yet, I resist! I am resolute in my conviction that I will no longer participate in the decimation of art funding by practicing my art! Besides, there is already enough Lycra in the world, awaiting renewal, repurposing, rejuvenation. Yes, technically Danny’s Warehouse in LA would count as used Lycra—he specializes in seconds, remnants, and split lots—but it is still NEW. For National Dance Week, let us re-imagine costuming. Let us make it clear that the line between our choreo and the Koch Brothers has become enmeshed with the votes to end all art support at state and national levels; this is one stretch that we cannot tolerate. Thus, let us free ourselves from the siren call of Danskin, Boch and assorted off-brand sexy and stretchy dancewear until they change their fabrics.
